Our hearts and minds are in Mexico: staff, educators, students
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico last Tuesday, in the anniversary of another devastating quake, in 1985. The epicenter was about 93 miles southeast of Mexico City, in the populous state of Puebla. The extent of the damage and people’s injuries are growing each day. More than 250 people have been reported dead so far.
Since that day, our hearts and minds are with our staff in Mexico, as well as with the teachers, principals, and students all over the country.
We take the chance to thank CEO Sundar Pichai & Google for their support of US$1 million toward the recovery of the recent earthquake in Mexico. Facebook also announced a donation of the same amount to Cruz Roja Mexicana (Red Cross in Mexico), and is also working with the United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to waive fees on donations to the UNICEF’s Facebook page.
These are examples of a fast and necessary action which will help thousands and thousands of people who are suffering in the aftermath of this terrible and deadly disaster. We appreciate and praise the friendship and sensibility from these companies.
