a tribute to worldfund 2007 honoree - roger agnelli
21 March 2016 - New York, NY
In 2007 we honored, as we do every year, two business leaders from Latin America. One of them was Mr. Roger Agnelli. Worldfund was saddened to hear of Mr. Agnelli's recent passing, along with the tragic deaths of six others, including his wife and two of his children. Brazil has lost a leader. We would like to send our deepest condolences to the Agnelli family's surviving loved ones.
We had a strong partner in Roger Angelli in respect to the furthering of education in Latin America. At Worldfund's Education Leadership Award Dinner where he was honored nine years ago, Mr. Agnelli said, "Any country that means to stand shoulder to shoulder with the great nations on this planet must have education as its priority number one. In these terms, education must be the target investment a country has to make in order to achieve sustainable development." We hope to continue to honor Mr. Agnelli's words by charging forward in our mission of better education quality for all in Latin America.
We will end as he did that evening, "with the words of a renowned Brazilian author, Monteiro Lobato: 'A country is made by men and books.' I am sure that from tonight on we shall continue to march confidently in that direction."
